“Just arrange the meeting, Richard and I’ll build the relationship. Building the relationship is not your role here.”
I had this conversation 10 years ago and still remember it. I remember it because my client’s logic, to my way of thinking, was and still is, fundamentally flawed.
Relationships with potential clients are built right at the very start of the marketing/ lead generation/ sales process.
If the starting point is me phoning a business to get agreement for any kind of follow up, then the relationship building blocks need to be laid down at this point. If they aren’t, then none of the people I speak with will wish to progress with us.
Relationship building must be at the heart of lead generation, otherwise there is no point doing it. Why bother?
That conversation confirmed my “Why” and I’m very pleased I had it.
Dear reader, thank you for reading. If you agree with my philosophy, then the following quote will resonate with you too:
“If you believe business is built on relationships, make building them your business.” – Scott Stratten
