I recently read a book, rather punchily titled:
Make Yourself Unforgettable – How to become the person everyone remembers and no one can resist.
Now, why would anyone wish to read a book with a title like that? I cannot think…..!
Published by Dale Carnegie Training, the book is choc full of nuggets. However, there is one particular idea, I came across which I’m itching to share now.
Reference is made to Dov Seidman and Mr. Seidman’s website: www.howsmatter.com
Mr. Seidman feels that the revolution in communications and technology has changed the game. It’s becoming much harder for an individual or a company to sustain a competitive advantage based simply on a product or service. Technology has made it easy to clone or improve on what is being offered. As a result, relationships and reputation are becoming much more important.
As Mr. Seidman puts it:
In a connected world, individuals and organisations that make the strongest connections win. In the past, our products and services – our whats – were our keys to success. Today, whats have become commodities, easily duplicated or reverse engineered. Sustainable advantage and enduring success – for both companies and the people who work for them – now lie in the realm of how.
Today, how we behave and interact with others is the ultimate differentiator. The qualities that most once thought of a “soft” – integrity, passion, humility and truth – have become the hard currency of business success and the most powerful drivers of reputation and profitability.
Food for thought?
Enjoy your weekend. Have a successful week!
Kindest regards,
Richard
