Beware of shortcuts

Beware of the shortcuts and quick fixes.

Equally, a useful message for me, as well as for my readers.

“We are often approached with shortcuts and sprinkles of magic to help fix all our marketing challenges. Everything worthwhile takes work, commitment, and resilience. There are no easy fixes. There are no silver bullets.”

I’ve been there. It’s tempting to believe that this one tool, that new tactic, or the next big trend will resolve our marketing struggles overnight. But if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Research helps us take avoiding action. Here’s how I’m learning to stay grounded and steer around the quick-fix trap:

Focus on Core Principles – Success rests on timeless principles: understanding, empathy, providing real value, and building great connections. Trends will come and go, but a strong foundation endures.

Play the Long Game – The best strategies prioritise sustainable growth over instant wins.

Evaluate New Ideas with Care – Innovation is essential but ask, does this align with my goals and values?

Be Ready for the Hard Work – Success doesn’t come in a box. Whether it’s refining a message, learning new skills, or building relationships, the magic is in consistent effort.

“How to play the long game:

Don’t worry about being the best. Worry about being the best at getting better.

Don’t aim to be consistently great. Aim to be great at being consistent.

Ignore hacks, trends and fads. Focus on nailing the basics over and over again.

Sleep at night.” – Brad Stulberg.
